how to fade photo edges in canva

As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, Canva didn’t offer a specific “fade photo edges” feature. However, you can achieve a similar effect in Canva by using a combination of image transparency and gradients. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to create a faded edge effect for a photo in Canva:

1. Open Canva:
   • Go to the Canva website (www.canva.com) and log in to your account.
2. Create a New Design:
   • Click the “Create a design” button and choose the type of design you want (e.g., a custom dimension or a social media post).
3. Upload Your Photo:
   • Click the “Uploads” tab on the left sidebar and upload the photo you want to edit.
4. Add the Photo to Your Design:
   • Drag and drop your uploaded photo onto the blank canvas.
5. Resize and Position the Photo:
   • Resize and position the photo as needed within your canvas.
6. Duplicate the Photo Layer:
   • In the layers panel (usually on the right side of the screen), right-click on the photo layer and select “Duplicate.” This will create a copy of the photo on top of the original.
7. Apply a Gradient to the Top Layer:
   • Click on the duplicated photo layer to select it.
   • In the top menu bar, click on the “Filter” option.
   • Choose the “Advanced Options” at the bottom of the dropdown menu.
   • In the “Advanced Options” panel, select “Effect” and choose “Gradient.”
   • Adjust the gradient settings to your liking. To create a fade effect, you can use a gradient that goes from solid color (e.g., white or transparent) to a slightly more opaque color. You can control the position and angle of the gradient as well.

   • Adjust the transparency or opacity of this layer to fine-tune the fade effect. You can do this by dragging the transparency slider in the layers panel.
9. Position and Resize the Top Layer (if needed):
   • If you want to control where the fade effect starts and ends, you can reposition and resize the duplicated photo layer.
10. Save Your Design:
    • Once you’re satisfied with the faded edge effect, click the “Download” button to save your design.
